Yippe!!!! One of my UFOs is FINALLY done! Look at this thing - it's huge!
It's a prayer shawl that I'm donating to St. Mary's hospital. I'm one of the handicraft volunteers that works at the hospital making things for the patients and their families. This is the first prayer shawl I've done. I've made a few chemo caps as well, but this was a MUCH bigger project. I've been working on it since before I even got engaged. lol. That tells you how long of a project it was to complete.
It's not hard to do, just was time consuming, as it used 3 skiens of yarn (Lion Brand Homespun Yarn). Depending on how tight you knit you can use between an 11 and 17 size needle. I used wooden size 11s (Clover Takumi Bamboo Premium 13/14 inch Single Point Knitting Needles)
The pattern is a simple basketweave combination of knits and pearls.
Cast on 63 stitches.
Then Knit 3, pearl 3. That's it. Knit 3, Pearl 3, repeat until you've used all three skeins.
I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for finally getting this done - and being able to check something off of my to-do list!

That is one big piece of knitting! Congrats on a finish a long-time-coming :)
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic! During my chemo, I used my prayer shawl. I loved knowing it came to me with prayers and blessings. It became one of my tools for my fight during my chemo. For some reason, I always was chilled during chemo. It is great that you have given your time making such a beautiful shawl. Thanks on behalf of the person that will be the lucky recipient. For us that have been in or going through chemo, it means a lot!
ReplyDeleteLove the prayer shaw and the comments from inspired by You. What a blessing this prayer shaw will be for someone. I found you via "Not Baad Sundays" New follower.

This is wonderful and I love the meaning behind it. I'm sure that it will bring someone such comfort. You're an angel :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how pretty! My mom does these through our church and it's always so nice to see the finished products from all of the women. It also gives them a nice chance to get together and talk. We've had 2 friends that were very ill and passing away in the hospital and mom was able to give them these before they passed.
ReplyDeleteKeep that heart!!!!!!!!! You're so sweet to do that!
What a wonderful donation! Someone is going to love it. I have quite a few UFO's in the way of quilts. Wish I could get my fanny in gear and 'get er done'! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Love the prayer shawl -- also love the idea of people being covered with prayer. I have made blankets for project Linus and I know they are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. Have a great week. Linda
