Homemade Pizza

Without a doubt, M's favorite food of all time is pizza.  I think before we were married, he probably at pizza a few times a week in one form or another.  I am also a big fan of pizza (although I am a plain cheese girl).  Pizza has become part of our regular dinner rotation appearing every week, almost always on Friday nights, which is when M would have pizza night as a kid.
Often times, I will make pizza rolls for us (recipe coming soon!).  One night though, I wanted to be a bit different (or was feeling lazy) and decided to make homemade pizza on the pizza stone instead.  I was really impressed with myself and pleased with how it turned out (minus the setting off the fire alarm when warming up the stone!  Note to self, make sure the stone is 100% cleaned off and there is not a crumb on it before putting it in the oven to warm up)
Enjoy this recipe for homemade pizza!

Homemade Pizza
Recipe Adapted from Annie's Eats

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cup room temperature water
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 3/4 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese (or whatever type you like best)
  • Toppings as desired
Directions:
Put the warm water in a 2 cup glass measuring cup and sprinkle the yeast over the top.  In a stand mixer, combine the flour and salt.  Add in the room temperature water to the glass measuring cup.  Turn on the mixer to low speed and slowly add in the water/yeast mixture and olive oil.  Switch to dough hook once the mixture is combined and knead until smooth (about five minutes).  Transfer to a lightly oiled boil and cover with plastic wrap and let rise until double in size about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Preheat over to 500 degrees and put in pizza stone to warm for 30 minutes.
Press down dough and deflate it.  Divide dough into to equal pieces and form each into a ball.  You may freeze one ball if only making one pizza.
Carefully shape the dough on the pizza stone (don't burn yourself).  Top as desired.
Bake until the crust is a golden brown, and cheese is bubbling - 8-12 minutes.
